This past week has been a whirlwind of activity and I think it's going to take a while for Karl and me to catch up on our rest! We still don't have our internet set up at our new house, but I am able to catch a wireless signal from time to time, so I decided to write a quick post.
Here's the basic run-down on our past week...
Saturday, 6/13 - Flew from San Francisco to Chicago; rented a car; attended our friends Ryan and Emily's wedding that evening.
Sunday, 6/14 - Went to a Cubs game with our friends Dana and Sarah; spent the night with Dana and her husband Nick, who made us the best BBQ ribs I've had in quite some time (thanks, guys!!!)
Monday, 6/15 - Left Chicago at 6:00 a.m. Drove to Bloomington. Closed on our house! (I don't think I've signed so many documents in my entire life). Made several trips to Target, Bed Bath & Beyond, Lowe's, etc. Finally got home around 9:30 p.m. We were up late putting a few things together (putting up shower curtains, unpacking the four suitcases we were living out of, Karl put up our mailbox in the pitch darkness, etc.) Slept on the floor with no blankets. Froze our butts off.
Tuesday, 6/16 - Karl started his assistantship at the President's Challenge. My dad and grandma drove up to see us and brought us my grandma's hutch and kitchen table that she gave us (very thoughtful and verrrry appreciated!), along with the stove/oven that my aunt Joan gave us (again, we cannot thank her enough). They also brought some dishes, cooking utensils, blankets, air matress, etc. to tide us over until our things arrived from California.
Wednesday, 6/17 - Finally got a workout in! Continued to run errands, and our refrigerator that my parents got us was delivered and installed. Finally, we can buy food! :) Karl's friend Greg had us and my friend Erin over to his place and grilled burgers. Yum!
Thursday, 6/18 - Spent my day at the BMV taking the driving test, getting my horrible new Indiana license (they don't let you smile in the picture anymore! Eeks! Mugshot!!!), then we drove down to Southern Indiana (Elberfeld) to pick up the car that my cousin, his wife, uncle, and dad gave us (it's a long explanation for how it came from so many people! haha) My aunt decided to have a big family dinner for us so we got to see her, my grandma, cousin Josh and his wife Amy, and their two kids, Myles and Sydney. It was a great gathering and we wished we could have spent even more time with them, but we had to drive back that night....very tired by the time we got home!
Friday, 6/19 - Comcast came in the morning to set up our cable and internet. Unfortunately, the internet still doesn't work and they can't come back out until Tuesday...grrr... My friend Beth came down from Indy to spend the night and we went out for dinner at Nick's and met up with Karl's friend Greg. Finally, a little "social" time!
Saturday, 6/20 - Karl and I returned the rental car in the A.M. Beth and I went to our friend Alicia's baby shower; Karl put together our grill and patio table. Around 3:00 p.m. the huge moving truck arrived with all of our belongings from California!!! They were unloading things until about 4:30. We unpacked two boxes and called it a day. Off to the Taste of Bloomington for some food!
Sunday, 6/21 - A full day of unpacking (we still have several more boxes to get through), plus church in the morning and brunch with Karl's dad for Father's Day. Oh and a trip to Lowe's for more stuff we didn't realize we would need...garden hose, trash containers, lawn mower, all kinds of fun stuff that I never thought I'd buy in my life!
As you can see, we've been crazy busy but the good news is this week we think everything is going to wind down a little... (fingers crossed). I never realized how expensive a move like this would be, so I have to give a big thanks once again to everyone for their generosity and help with the move. All of the gift cards and housewarming gifts have come in soooooo handy this week and we can't express our thanks enough for the car, refrigerator, range, furniture, etc. Without my family's help we would either not be able to cook and keep food cold for a while or we would be in crazy credit card debt, which isn't the best thing when you've just bought a house. SO....THANK YOU!!!!!! :)
More to come later....and hopefully some pictures of the house once all of the boxes are gone!
