Karl and I were really excited that today was wide open - nothing on the agenda, nothing we absolutely had to do. So, we slept in until about 10:30 (soooo nice!) and after a little computer time we decided to go see a movie. We've both talked about wanting to see the new Oliver Stone film, "W", about George W. Bush, or possibly Bill Maher's documentary on religion called "Religulous". In the end, though, neither of us were in the mood for anything too deep or political so we decided to go see "Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist". It was the best decision we could have made. It was somewhat of a teen movie - Nick is played by one of my favorite young actors, Michael Cera (also in "Juno" and the former TV series "Arrested Development"...I hope this guy is as sweet in real life as he is on camera...he's completely the type of guy you'd want your teenage daughter to date) and the movie is all about his adventures in New York City one night with a girl named Norah, who happens to be friends (sort of) with his ex-girlfriend, whom he isn't quite over yet. They travel from one nightspot to the next with two of Nick's friends and a random guy they picked up along the way in search of their favorite band, "Where's Fluffy". All the while, Norah's best friend ended up drunk and lost, so they have to look for her in between searching for their favorite band. The great part about this movie is that compared to most of today's teen movies, it was surprisingly wholesome and sweet. No sex, no drugs, just a little bit of rock 'n' roll and drinking (though neither Nick nor Norah drinks, and the aforementioned drunk friend is made to look like a total idiot, so drinking isn't glorified at all). The storyline is funny, sweet, and makes you think about the times as a teen that you and your friends would go off driving with no real destination in sight - just looking for somthing exciting or fun to do. I definitely recommend this movie to anyone who is looking for a not-so-serious movie that will put a smile on your face. After the movie we walked around Berkeley for a while, hopping in and out of some of the downtown shops, stopping for frozen yogurt, and enjoying the beautiful (and warm!) day. It had to have been about 80 degrees outside.
After coming home and relaxing a bit more we decided to go to Target, which isn't e
xtremely close to our house so we rarely go. We were planning on ordering Zachary's Pizza for dinner, but on our way to Target we passed a place called the Pyramid Alehouse that looked pretty cool so we decided to give it a try after our shopping spree at Target. I'm so glad that we decided to try someplace new because the food was very good and the beer was amazing! I had the Pyramid Hefeweizen (my favorite type of beer is Hefeweizen...German wheat beer) and Karl had the dark beer called Mac's Blackwatch Cream Porter, which was similar to a Guinness and also very tasty. So...if you are planning to visit us anytime in the near future I can almost guarantee we're going to take you to this place. There are five Pyramid Alehouse's in the U.S. (Seattle, Portland, Berkeley, Walnut Creek, and Sacramento), and we live just about 10 minutes from the Berkeley location.Tomorrow I have a lot of work to do for the upcoming week, but I am glad to report that our "relaxing" day was exactly that! I hope everyone else is having a great weekend too. :)
